Couple of weeks ago I went to an exhibition. The artist had put together his lastest works where he talked about how life is destructive and productive. He talks about how the city changes over time due to political and cultural differences.
Inspired
by Foucault’s
philosophical approaches on Rene
Magritte’s well known painting, the second part of the exhibition,
entitled ‘It is not a pipe’,
makes use of digital, analog video and film formats while focusing on the
perception of process, product and time. As the title’s Turkish translation “Boru Değil” also makes a reference to
the slang expression meaning ‘’the
work is not easy’’, the exhibition concentrates on both definitions and
symbolisms while focusing on the process of creating meaning and the relation
of the signifier to the signified. Highlighting the difficulties of video art,
installation, art and film creation, the artist also creates an allusion to
pipe lines, social, political and economic connections and the communication
networks by making use of the word ‘pipe’s double meaning in Turkish.
